Born in Camagüey, Cuba, of Haitian parents, Mel Semé began his musical career in the Baptist church of his town hand in hand with his brothers and in the company of older musicians. They played a kind of Latin gospel influenced by the missionaries who often came to Cuba from the southern United States.

At an early age he began his interest in composition and the approach to multiple instruments among which the guitar, piano and drums stood out. Currently Mel is touring the USA with his exceptional future-folk band Gone Gone Beyond.
